These are suggested supplies that I prefer using. As a beginner, the better quality of supplies you choose the better results you will have. Since they are an investment, feel free to choose the supplies that you can afford. I used a cool whip lid for a palette when I first started – a plastic disposable plate will work too!
If you already have water color supplies, use what you have. These items are available from Dick Blick and Cheap Joes

Paper:
Arches blocks, cold press or rough, 140 lb. 10” x 14”
Or Cotman Water color spiral pad, 12 sheets, 140 lb., 12”x16”
The important thing is to have 140 lb. weight paper, at least 10”x14”

Brushes:
I use Winsor Newton sable mix, but they are expensive.
You can buy synthetics to fit your budget.
1” flat sable
1” flat synthetic
.5” flat, sable
.5” flat, synthetic
rigger or small round sable
rigger or small round synthetic
I prefer flat brushes, but you may prefer the round ones

Paints:
I prefer Winsor Newton artist quality paints. The colors are more vibrant because they contain more pigment. Student quality paints are less expensive, they will work, but you won’t get the same results. If you already have them, use them, or if you are not sure if you want to continue to pursue watercolor painting, start with them.

Colors:
Winsor Newton Student grade (Cotman), Raw Sienna, Aurelion Yellow
Cadmium Yellow, French Ultra Marine, Permanent Rose
Quinacridone gold, Yellow ochre, Quinacridone red, Cadmium red

You may want to team up with someone as you purchase paints and share to save on expenses.

Miscs:
Paper Towel, plastic water container (cottage cheese carton etc.)
Sponge, salt shaker, Notebook, pencil, Palette – you can use a styrofoam plate
